Another Stop on the Trolley Trail

IMG_3119

People are already using the next leg of the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail.

Although the asphalt hasn’t been poured yet on the extension of a trail from Arts District Hyattsville to Riverdale Park, the Hyattsville Wire noticed at least one couple enjoying a stroll on the gravel path already.

The newest leg of the trail is nearly a mile long, with a 0.3 mile paved section running through the Arts District and the upcoming 0.6 mile section extending it to Riverdale Park Town Center.

This will be especially nice for visiting  the Riverdale Park Farmer’s Market on Thursdays.

The next step, as reader Carol B. notes, would be to connect the Riverdale Park portion to the existing 2.6 mile College Park Trolley Trail through the Cafritz property, which is being turned into a new retail and residential development with a Whole Foods Market.

As this slightly outdated map shows, that would give joggers and bikers a pretty nice trail from the Arts District all the way to Greenbelt Road.
