Orangetheory Fitness to Open by End of January

Orangetheory Fitness College Park Maryland

Orangetheory Fitness will open in College Park in January.

Located inside the new Cambria Hotel at 8321 Baltimore Ave., the Florida-based chain offers high-intensity interval training in group sessions that use gamification techniques to get gym-goers to push themselves harder.

The fitness studio will have special “founder’s rates” for members who join early. It will be holding pop-up pre-sales tables at various local businesses:

10 to 11 a.m. Dec. 7 Vigilante Coffee in Hyattsville
12 to 1 p.m. Dec. 8 Streetcar 82 Brewing Co. in Hyattsville
10 to 11 a.m. Dec. 9 The Board and Brew in College Park
10 to 11 a.m. Dec. 10 University View apartments in College Park
5 to 6 p.m. Dec. 11 The Enclave at 8700 apartments in College Park
5 to 6 p.m. Dec. 12 Monument Village apartments in College Park
5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 13 Looney’s Pub in College Park

Orangetheory is just the latest addition to Route 1’s growing fitness scene, including Gold’s Gym at Riverdale Park Station, CrossFit HyattsvilleLA Fitness at Prince George’s Plaza, Planet Fitness at the Mall at Prince George’s and iLoveKickboxing studio at University Town Center, not to mention a number of yoga and barre studios.

But College Park branch manager Crystal Herbert told the Hyattsville Wire that Orangetheory will stand out because of its unique workouts.

“We are science-backed and technology-tracked,” she said. “We are a 60-minute full-body workout. We have a design team at our headquarters that does the corporate design. None of the coaches are creating the work outs and hoping it works.”

There are over 30 Orangetheory locations in the greater Washington area, but the College Park location will be the first next to a college.

In a study, the chain found that many college students have memberships that they use in other states, and since members have access to all 1,000-plus studios across the country, that means there’s a built-in base already in College Park.

“College Park was another place to get into just because it’s not saturated with a lot of fitness,” said Herbert. “They haven’t done anything in a college town, so it’s a great location for the students.”
