Coffee Shop Headed to Downtown Riverdale Park

A coffee shop is headed to downtown Riverdale Park near two new restaurants, another sign of the area’s resurgence.

The new cafe will be located in the building at 4701 Queensbury Ave., across the street from Riviera Tapas, Banana Blossom Bistro and Bikram Hot Yoga and right off the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail.

After being dormant for years, the area has seen renewed interest since Riverdale Park Station opened just around the corner.

The coffee shop means the departure of a longtime tenant of the building, the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation, which has hosted weekly jam sessions there focusing on acoustic Piedmont blues since 2009.

The nonprofit announced it will hold the sessions — which are open to anyone, even if all you can play is a washboard — at 2 p.m. on Saturdays at the Public Option bar at 1601 Rhode Island Ave. NE in Northeast D.C.

By this spring, the group will move into a house at 4502 Hamilton St., not far from the Shoppes at Arts District Hyattsville, as reported first by the Hyattsville Life and Times.
