Prince George’s County to Shut Down Indoor Dining Starting Dec. 16

Facing another spike in coronavirus cases, Prince George’s County will shut down indoor dining and limit indoor shopping starting next week.

The restrictions bring the county back to where it was earlier in the pandemic, coming at an especially bad time for local businesses as colder weather and the holiday season were luring more customers inside.

Under the new restrictions, indoor dining is barred and outdoor dining limited to 50 percent capacity, though restaurants will still be able to offer curbside delivery and takeout.

Retail stores, which have been restricted to 50 percent capacity, will be further reduced to 25 percent capacity. Gyms and fitness studios will also be restricted to 25 percent capacity.

The restrictions go into effect at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, and are slated to last through Jan. 16.

The rate of new cases of coronavirus in Prince George’s County has doubled from a month ago amid a nationwide resurgence as winter has driven more people indoors.

But be sure to take advantage of all the great dining options on the Route 1 corridor from Denizens Brewing Co. at the Station at Riverdale Park with its outdoor fire pits, to Hyattsville’s Shortcake Bakery’s outdoor Sunday Brunch on the Avenue event, to the new Pennyroyal Station in Mount Rainier, which after three years of hard work, finally opened its doors on December 1 and offers outdoor patio seating with space heaters as well as take out and delivery.
