Former Owner of Bird Kitchen + Cocktails to Open Fried Chicken Eatery in Brentwood Friday

The former owner of the now-closed Bird Kitchen + Cocktails in Mount Rainier is opening a new fried chicken eatery inside Brentwood’s food hall.

Saint Crispy’s will hold a soft-launch on Friday, April 30 at miXt Food Hall inside the Studio 3807 apartment building at 3807 Rhode Island Ave.

Owner Lenny Robinson, who has run several critically praised restaurants in the Atlanta and D.C. areas, told the Hyattsville Wire that he wanted to combine his French cooking techniques with his Southern roots at the new eatery.

The regular menu is simple: Southern fried chicken with two sides, bread and pickles, in sizes ranging from a sandwich to a whole bird, good for a family of four. Sides include mac and cheese and apple cider cole slaw, and desserts include salted caramel banana pudding and lemon icebox pie.

A Sunday brunch menu is where the menu really gets creative, with Asian-influenced crackling, crispy Brussel sprouts, chicken katsudon, chicken and waffles, smothered pork chops and chicken-fried soft-shell crab sandwich or a bag of light Danish pancakes known called ebelskivers.

Along with all desserts, bread, ice cream cones and ebelskivers are made in-house.

A catering menu includes even more options, including curried goat, candied suckling pork, catfish and grits and sesame milk bread, among other things.

One note: The restaurant uses 100 percent peanut oil, but it has gluten-friendly options.

Saint Crispy’s hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday and Sunday with brunch on Sundays from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays they will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The miXt food hall is also home to Little Miner Taco, Relish Market, a cocktail spot and a coffee bar now serving Vigilante.
