A community-supported agriculture farm in Prince George’s County that’s 100 percent woman-owned, delivers fresh, naturally grown produce each week to North Brentwood for Route 1 corridor residents to pick up.

Located in Upper Marlboro, Owl’s Nest Farm grows organic produce such as squash, eggplant, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and kale as well as spices including basil and garlic. It sells its produce to D.C.-area farmers markets, various restaurants and through CSA shares which you sign up for to pick-up locally.

CSA customers can pick up their produce on the corridor from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays outside Brentwood’s Material Things art studio at 4531 Rhode Island Ave.

A half-share CSA for the season is $390, while a full-share is $780. Fruit, eggs and meat can also be added on to any CSA package, and there are reduced-payment options for people on limited budgets.

Last year, Owl’s Nest Farm delivered over $15,000 worth of fresh produce to individuals and community groups through its Food Access Fund. To learn more about their free and or discounted vegetables, click here.

Owl’s Nest Farm is situated on three acres of land which, since 2011, has been managed according to organic guidelines and has been a certified naturally grown farm since 2013.

You can normally sign up for a CSA share with Owl’s Nest Farm on their website here, but since they are sold out for the current season, you can join the wait list now for a future share here. Locally, ECO City Farms also has a CSA.

Owner of Owl’s Nest Farm Liz Whitehurst is featured in this Washington Post piece offering helpful tips on how to buy and use “ugly produce,” also known as seconds.
