Owners of Riverdale Park’s Gangster Vegan Expand to D.C.

The owners of a popular vegan restaurant on the Route 1 corridor are expanding with a new raw food concept in D.C.

James and Taneea Yarborough, who run Gangster Vegan Organics restaurants in Baltimore and Riverdale Park, have opened RAWish in the Western Market food hall at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW in Foggy Bottom.

The menu features mostly raw plant-based and soy-free dishes, including cold-press juice, smoothie bowls, “Buddha bowls” with walnut meat, salads and a “cheesecake” and banana cream pie.

The only item that’s not raw is toast made by a local baker topped with avocado mash or peanut butter, banana and strawberry.

“We try to help people understand that RAWish is for everyone; whether you are vegan or taking a stab at this for the first time, we have something for you,” Taneea Yarborough told the Washington Informer.

The success of Gangster Vegan in Riverdale Park is another sign of how much the Route 1 corridor has become an incubator for D.C.’s restaurant scene.

Meanwhile, this Friday,  Oct. 29, from 6-9 p.m., Gangster Vegan will be joining a group of local restaurants in Riverdale Park for “Boo & Bites,” a celebratory Halloween restaurant tour where participating eateries will offer small bites and drinks at special prices. There will also be trick or treating and outdoor patio music.  You can enter to win $100 by taking a photo of your meal and uploading it using the hashtag #tasteofgr. Winner will be announced at Boo & Bites on Friday.
