Hyattsville Wire Hits 1 Million Page Views

When we started the Hyattsville Wire in 2012, we hoped that not only our friends and neighbors would enjoy reading it, but that the greater D.C. area would learn more about how vibrant the Route 1 corridor was and what it was like to actually live here. We felt the area wasn’t getting the news it deserved and we wanted to change that. The site grew bigger and faster than we ever expected.

Over the years, we’ve written hundreds of stories on local artists, new restaurants, interesting local history, and about all the new real estate and development projects alone Route 1. We’ve added thousands of followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We’ve joined Google News and been cited by everyone from Greater Greater Washington, Eater DC, and UrbanTurf, to DCist, the Washington Post and, most recently, Politico.

And our coverage has spanned the entire Route 1 corridor from Woodridge, D.C., to Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood, Hyattsville, Riverdale Park and College Park, and the surrounding area.

This month, we reached a new milestone: 1 million page views total.

Hyperlocal news sites like the Hyattsville Wire don’t survive on internet traffic; we thrive because of our connection to you, our readers and, more importantly, our friends and neighbors. We do well when you share our stories on Facebook or with friends on the sidelines of a soccer game at Magruder Park. We succeed when you check out the new Savor food hall in Brentwood or shop at the new Uptown Cheapskate in College Park because you read about it here.

But we have to admit, we’re proud of hitting that milestone and we want to thank you for helping us do it. Thanks for reading the Hyattsville Wire and thanks for sharing our stories.
