Residents along the Route 1 corridor will be able to get coronavirus testing at FedEx Field in Landover for free beginning Monday, March 30, as long as they have their doctor’s approval and pass a county screening to get an appointment.

Testing is set to being at a tent in the parking lot of the pro-football stadium at 1600 Fedex Way, a 15-minute drive from downtown Hyattsville. The site will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

About 100 people a day will be tested. To qualify, you will need to get a note from your doctor and meet certain requirements as part of a screening process designed to reduce unnecessary testing.

Patients typically need to have a fever and/or coughing or difficulty breathing to get tested. The highest priorities for testing, in order, are people already in a hospital for other reasons; healthcare workers and first responders; residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities; and people who are at high risk because of other medical conditions.

Prince George’s County, the state health department, the Maryland National Guard and the University of Maryland Medical System worked together to set up the testing site.

To see if you qualify for an appointment at FedEx Field, call the county’s coronavirus hotline at (301) 883-6627.

MedStar Health at 6401 America Blvd. in Hyattsville is also offering walk-in coronavirus testing for patients with a doctor’s approval who pass a screening. Call (301) 276-8800 for more information.

Four drive-thru testing sites in Prince George’s County have not yet opened.
